GuardRail

Help & Support

GuardRail gives you a moment to make a deliberate choice before opening a distracting app.

Version: 1.1.0
Requires: iPhone with iOS 16.0 or later

Quick start

  1. Open GuardRail and allow Screen Time access.
  2. Choose one or two apps you most want to open less.
  3. GuardRail starts as soon as you finish.

Why is Screen Time access required?

GuardRail uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to show reminders for selected apps and restore them after a temporary access window. iOS does not permit these actions without Screen Time access.

Can GuardRail see content inside other apps?

No. GuardRail cannot read chats, photos, typed content, browsing activity, or account information. The system provides only the restricted app identifiers required for GuardRail to work.

Why does the same app show no second reminder?

After you choose Open Anyway, GuardRail starts a temporary access window for that app. Reopening it before the window ends does not show another reminder or increase the count.

Why can the reminder return a little late?

iOS Screen Time schedules when the reminder returns, so a small delay can occur. GuardRail is not a foreground timer accurate to the second.

Does a support purchase unlock features?

No. Each option is a repeatable consumable purchase for voluntary support. It unlocks no extra feature and does not affect normal use. The App Store handles the purchase.

How do I delete my data?

This version has no account or developer server. Clearing selected apps, pausing GuardRail, or uninstalling the app stops local processing; uninstalling removes data stored by the app.
